Buxton Lime is the leading producer of lime products in the UK. Buxton Lime is famous for its purity and consistent chemistry – their advanced production and quality management systems ensures their lime products provide the most effective solution for each and every application.
Lime has been produced in the Buxton area of Derbyshire for centuries and plays a vital role in water purification, land remediation and power generation, including flue-gas desulphurisation. It is also used in the production of essential materials ranging from construction products, iron, steel, plastics and glass through to medical products and animal feed.
When SigmaRoc completed the acquisition of the UK lime operations of Buxton Lime for £133m, they came directly to us for a complete rebrand.
There was very little time (about 5 weeks!) to create a new identity from scratch. We were asked to supply a full website and branding guidelines to include every feasible item that could possibly be needed.
Rebranding such a heritage product with it’s unique history, values and reputation built over time always has it challenges but we were confident we could deliver. We started by fully exploring the company, its current identity and how it wanted to be seen as part of the SigmaRoc family and to their customers.
After proposing various pathways, the logo design was narrowed down to one option, where further development was made to ensure all parties were confident in the chosen approach.
We then created the brand guidelines to show exactly how the identity would reflect the company in any public facing way. The logo is just one part of this – we include all colours, typeface choices and sizes, image selection and style of wording.
Only then could we start the larger job of applying these guidelines to the plethora of things needed for a relaunch – business stationery, staff clothing, signage, vehicle livery, promotional materials and product packaging.
Of course, this was only the beginning, and we have since been the go-to team for all manner of design and printed items; from advertising to internal forms and everything inbetween.
The new website had to be custom designed, coded from scratch and optimised ready for the day of the acquisition.
Our website design team started the project by presenting the client design visuals that showcased how the website could look. This was done in parallel with the graphic design team putting together colours and logo ideas to give them an idea of how both the print and digital brand would support each other.
Whilst developing the site it was important to showcase that Buxton Lime was the UK’s market leader in Lime production. This lead us to go for a modern, clean and simple approach. Our first choice was to make it easy to navigate using a mega menu to split the sectors into easy to find sections. We opted to use as much large clean photography and video as we could whilst being fully optimised for desktop, tablet, and mobile to ensure accessibility across devices
Our developers coded the site and had it all approved, sat ready and waiting for the 6am launch time. We waited on confirmation of the deal having gone through before pushing the site live and submitting to Google Webmasters & other directories to get the new site indexed as fast as possible. We then updated their Google My Business locations, which is important in helping the site be found.
We’ve been based in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk for over 30 years and offer a full range of graphic design, print and web design services to companies throughout the UK.
